Is there a place to melt my gold into bars?

Posted by admin as Gold Bars

Like i don’t want to send it in for money. I would like to just melt it down into bars that I could keep. So is there a place that would melt it down for me into bars for a fee?

Yes, there is many refiners who would do this … The best place to find their advertisements would be in the ‘California Mining Journal’…they have a web site under that name to check out. Most would charge a percentage of your gold to do this. Do check into the background of refiner, as there are some on the shady side… A big difference would be if your gold is raw nuggets or if it is from electronic scrap: nuggets would have a higher market value to collectors for the sake of having them. A collector might offer to pay for your nuggets in refined gold.Recycled gold has its own Special refining …as there is other Precious metals involved. Again, do check into these type places, use one that will return your gold on a percentage base. Most bar stock is currently in one ounce or in 1000 gram bars. These keep well, and make a great way to display your finds. Any small amounts left over the cost to make such bars, could be returned to you in the form of ‘casting grade gold’; 18K…12K..etc. Then you could have a custom ring or other jewelry made from it
If you was to try to melt it your self… you would need a hotter tourch than just propane…and a crucible to melt it in…and soda ash to dross the impurities off… but the finished bar would not have a known purity stamp, like 99.9 fine… Better left to the experts at a refinery.

I cant understand why on earth you would want to. isn’t what you have aesthetically more pleasing or have better sentimental value than a plain gold brick? anyway I doubt if there is anywhere that would do that as precious metals need to be hallmarked to guarantee their purity. You may find a friendly goldsmith with a forge, but they may be unwilling to help…

a good way to do that is get your own little propane bottle at a hardware store and some sort of mold… gold melts at about 1400 degrees
Melting it isn’t that difficult.
But… like the guy says, once the stamp of carrot is gone, it takes a jewler to grade your bar…. and it nearly always winds up bing ‘alloyed’ once melted.

..been there… done that…

  • Gold Bar

Of all the precious metals, the gold bar is the most popular as an investment. Investors generally buy gold bar as a hedge or safe haven against any economic, political, social, or currency-based crises. These crises include investment market declines, inflation, war, and social unrest. Investors also buy gold bars during times of a bull market in an attempt to gain financially.

At the end of 2006, it was estimated that all the gold ever mined totaled 158,000 tonnes. This can be represented by a cube with an edge length of just 20.2 meters.
