The investor market …
The investor market gets less than 4% of all the newly mined silver each year. This causes a shortage in investment silver. The only reason you are’nt paying high premiums on silver today is because the Private Mints have channeled industrial silver held in inventory from industry that has halted or decreased production because of the economic situation. If the economy was strong…..your premiums would be extravagant.

SouthernLibertyAmer says July 27th, 2009 at 6:02 am

I’m saying that …
I’m saying that there won’t be enough government issued coins available if there’s an economic collapse. Here in America, some dumb merchant may not want an Austria Philharmonic LOL! There’s not enough silver available in coin form to do transactions with only government coins. Private Mint coins will most certainly have a play in an economic collapse.

SouthernLibertyAmer says July 27th, 2009 at 6:02 am

Do you doubt the …
Do you doubt the authenticity of APMEX, Pan American, Johnson Matthey, NorthWest Territory, etc. These private mints supplying silver to you

SouthernLibertyAmer says July 27th, 2009 at 6:02 am

Is it that there …
Is it that there silver is real and the private mints aren’t? No…..they keep mintage down and charge higher premiums. They are in business to make money my friend. For instance. Right now the U.S. Mint is selling the Lincoln 4 coin series marking his birth in 1809. There’s 2 rolls which have a value of $1.00. But yet, they are selling each of the 4 coin series sets of P and D for $4.50 per roll. Get my drift? It’s the same for the ASE’s.

SouthernLibertyAmer says July 27th, 2009 at 6:02 am

The U.S. Mint …
The U.S. Mint itself is in violation of Public Law 99-61. This laws requires the U.S. Mint to strike enough AME’s for Public demand. They have been in violation of this law since 1986. Since then they have not struck enough ASE’s for each American to have a total of only one. And have of them now (or close to it) are owned by investors in foreign countries. The same is true for other government issued silver. Ask yourself, why is government issued silver coins so high in premiums?

no that’s not what …
no that’s not what I meant. In time that you want to change the coin for an item, it is faster to exchange hand when you have something from the mint. Unlike the private coin, the buyer will have to take a closer look, bite it, and use acid test, that’s if the acid test was available during exchanging.

SouthernLibertyAmer says July 27th, 2009 at 6:02 am

True…..if you …
True…..if you doubt the Private Mints claim that the coin comes from, then you should buy you a silver acid test kit. I have no problem buying the private mints silver. There’s other ways that you can test the metal by a white cloth. Silver will leave a black, or dark residue. A magnet, or if the metal smells like metallic. These are simple test you can do yourself. Remember also that silver has the highest possible polish of any metal. Take a look at your proof ASE’s. Test kits cost $10.00.

I have a question. …
I have a question. You state that private coin can be invested But the problem of buying private coin is that there is not guarantee that the silver coin is fine. Unlike mint’s coin from US mint, Royal mint, Perth Mint, etc., it’s fineness is guarantee by them.

Ok thank you and …
Ok thank you and great videos. I have a feeling I’ll learn quite a bit watching them.

SouthernLibertyAmer says July 27th, 2009 at 6:02 am

You’re right rough. …
You’re right rough….the value is in the content. But if you have coins that’s not struck for circulation such as the ASE, it’s just nice to keep their appearance as nice as possible. Fingerprints are very noticeable on a newly struck coin and some people just don’t want a coin they buy to have fingerprint smears on them. As for older coins that have been worn, it really makes no difference. But if you were to have some early date 90% Uncirculated coins, then you need to wear the gloves.

roughneck10000 says July 27th, 2009 at 6:02 am

Why do you wear …
Why do you wear gloves? Do the values of these coins come from rarity or purely from the metal purity? It may sound like a dumb question and I’m sorry, but I don’t hold my quarters with a gloved hand yet they are still worth the face price is the way my logic is going. I thought the worth was in the purity of precious metal the coin/bar is.

drywall them in …
drywall them in your house. find all those nooks that only you would know about in your house

SouthernLibertyAmer says July 27th, 2009 at 6:02 am

I’d ay that most …
I’d ay that most keep it in their homes. I’m sassuming they have weapons also. BUT! I’d never trust the bank. Some banks have auctioned safe deposit contents in the event of bereavement, without contacting relatives. A dog that barks is also nice to have.

Southern Liberty,

Southern Liberty,
What about storage of your investments in silver and gold? I don’t think safety deposit boxes in banks will be safe. I don’t trust them (the banks). I’m wondering how I can safegaurd my “collection”.

Hello SLA, love …
o SLA, love your vids. Silver today 14.34 2-18-09. Gold just a day or two away from 1000.00. Nothing goes straight up, but I think the big players are starting to enter the market. It looks like 16 or 17 is the next checkpoint. If it goes through we will see a test of the old high. What are you thinking? take care, keep posting:-)

very nice and …
very nice and informative video. I just started this month (feb.) collecting silver and gold coins and bars but I prefer the silver bars more though. :) anyway, hope to see more of your vids.

SouthernLibertyAmer says July 27th, 2009 at 6:02 am

For instance, two …
For instance, two different companies can build a lawnmower from the exact same parts, and when completed, you have the same lawnmower but with different logo’s. And as usual, one will sell for a higher price than the other, only because of the name on it :>)

SouthernLibertyAmer says July 27th, 2009 at 6:02 am

Not as far I, and …
Not as far I, and many others are concerned. Your objective is to buy .999 silver (which is investment silver) rather it be a government issued silver round or generic silver round (private mint) . It is true that ASE’s and other Government struck rounds bring a higher premium. BUT! It’s only because the Government Mints sell at a higher premium. So, I think it’s wise to pay less initially for the same .999 silver.

does it matter wich …
does it matter wich mint you use? how do you know which ones are good?

Is there a way to …
Is there a way to have a small push button flash light, to help light up your Silver coins?

Could this idea be worth while experimenting with?

SouthernLibertyAmer says July 27th, 2009 at 6:02 am

Sometimes you can …
Sometimes you can find a better deal from a dealer or ebay.

thanks, I have a …
thanks, I have a question is it better to buy a proof or un-circulated eagle from the us mint store or from a dealer?

fluffie, I think there would be an earth with no people for that to happen. Silver has a very bright future. :>)

  • Gold Bar

Of all the precious metals, the gold bar is the most popular as an investment. Investors generally buy gold bar as a hedge or safe haven against any economic, political, social, or currency-based crises. These crises include investment market declines, inflation, war, and social unrest. Investors also buy gold bars during times of a bull market in an attempt to gain financially.

At the end of 2006, it was estimated that all the gold ever mined totaled 158,000 tonnes. This can be represented by a cube with an edge length of just 20.2 meters.
