Russian rookie Semenova takes uneven bars world title

Ksenia Semenova took home the only gold medal for Russia at this year’s world championships on the uneven bars. The competition was a close one, separating Semonva and silver medalist Nastia Liukin (USA) by half a tenth of a point. Semenova’s routine earned a 7.2 in difficulty. (WCSN, WCSN.com, NBCSports)

Anastasia “Nastia” Valeryevna Liukin (Russian: born October 30, 1989) is a
Russian-American artistic gymnast. She is the ‘08 2008 Olym.pic individual all-
around gold medalist, the 2005 and 2007 World Champion on the balance
beam, and the 2005 World Champion on the uneven bars. With nine World
Championships medals, seven of them individual, Liukin is tied with Shannon
Miller as the American gymnast having won the most World Championship
medals.

Samantha Peszek (born December 14, 1991 in McCordsville, Indiana) is an
American national team gymnast. She is a member of the United States’ ‘08
Olym.pic women’s gymnastics team. She was a member of the gold medal-
winning U.S. team at the 2007 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships and
the 2007 Pan American Games.

Chellsie Marie Memmel (born June 23, 1988 in West Allis, Wisconsin) is an
American gymnast. She is the 2005 World All-Around Champion, making her the
third American woman, after Kim Zmeskal and Shannon Miller, to become World
Champion in the All-Around. She is also a World Champion on the uneven bars
(2003) and as part of the U.S. team (2003). She is a member of the United
States’ ‘08 Oly.mpic women’s gymnastics team. With a total of six World medals, Memmel is one of the most decorated U.S. female gymnasts.

Ivana Hong (born December 11, 1992 in Worcester, Massachusetts) is an
American artistic gymnast. She was a member of the gold medal American team
at the 2007 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships and the all-around bronze
medalist at the 2007 Pan American Games. She was named an alternate to the
‘08 U.S. Olym.pic team.

Hambuechen takes home the gold in horizontal bars final

Germany’s Fabian Hambuechen took home the gold on the high bar on the final day of competition. Coached by his father, Hambuechen performed a flawless routine at the highest level of difficulty in the competition, a 7.0.
